Finding a used syringe or needle in a park, on a playground or in the street is unfortunately something that happens in our city. Never try to pick the syringe up or handle it — the risk of injury and of contracting an infectious disease (HIV, hepatitis) is high.
What to do
- Do not touch anything — neither the syringe nor the ground around it.
- Mark the spot — keep children away and stand where you can warn passers-by.
- Call the operations centre of the Karlovy Vary Municipal Police on 353 153 911.
- Stay at a safe distance until an officer arrives. The operations centre can advise you over the phone what to do if there are children nearby.
What happens next?
The officer disposes of the syringe in a special container for biohazardous waste. Final disposal is carried out by an authorised facility.
